Absolutely taboo

Fortunately, the bestseller “Gut: The Inside Story of Our Body’s Most Underrated Organ” with the introductory sentence “… how does poop actually work …” made the topic socially acceptable and encouraged more people to not only talk to their gastroenterologist regarding digestive problems, flatulence, constipation and similar issues. You can help yourself. Some millennia-old cultures practice what conventional medicine has long had a hard time with. The human body’s immune system is in the gut.

gut

A healthy gut is evidence of a healthy immune system. Conversely, this means that your immune system is working poorly and you are often sick, have a cold, have poor wound healing, a bloated stomach, metabolic disorders / anabolism, food intolerances, etc., could be remedied with an gut rehabilitation. A wide variety of methods are used for this, such as:

I believe the oldest and, at the same time, the most cost-effective method is the classic enema. Those women who have already given birth may have been confronted with it.

Why do an enema at all?

You can only refill an empty vessel.

Enemas are often used in combination with fasting as a restart for better nutrition. This can help reduce food addictions, rejuvenate the body’s cells, prevent lifestyle diseases, it improves mood, it can help with diseases such as cancer, diabetes, rheumatism, osteoarthritis, and much more.

How does an enema work?

It is no rocket science; Fill the irrigator (that’s the name of the vessel) with approx. 1 liter of lukewarm water, then lay down in a comfortable position on your left side, put the pipe in the anus, turn on the tap, let the water run … When the container is completely empty, control your sphincter and keep the water in your body for as long as possible. Some people do various exercises, changing position from the left in the candle to the right in the dog (it’s a yoga exercise), back to the left position and so on and so forth … and rinse the water through the gut like in the washing machine 😉 … but this is not a must!

Attention

Under certain circumstances, the enema removes water and minerals from the body, which can massively disrupt the body’s own household. There can also be a risk of injury when inserting the plastic pipe, mostly when inserting the klister into the anus when it is too dry! Use a body-friendly fat such as coconut oil. Please do not use Vaseline because of its petroleum based!

Since an intestinal irrigation always has an irritating effect on the intestinal activity and intestinal mucosa, it is better not to use enemas even with certain previous illnesses and symptoms.

Is organic nonsense?

If you bring up this topic in a relaxed atmosphere, long discussions can arise. Are organic foods healthier, more environmentally friendly and even tastier than conventionally produced foods? Is it enough to peel fruits and vegetables? Are all the colorful organic labels just a good Marketing strategy to make more money and just for eco freaks?

Let’s take a quick look at what organic actually means, which seals there are, what the price differences look like, how sustainable this is and whether organic is really healthier.

What does organic actually mean?

The EU defines the minimum requirements for organic food in the so-called EC Eco Regulation. This includes the following points, among others:

  • No chemical pesticides or mineral fertilizers may be used when growing organic food.
  • No genetic engineering may be used.
  • A lower maximum number of animals per hectare may be kept. Animals are only allowed to get organic food and antibiotics are only allowed to be used for medical purposes.
  • Only around 50 additives are permitted for the production of processed organic foods (more than 300 for conventional foods). The “prohibited” additives include sweeteners, artificial colors, stabilizers, preservatives and flavor enhancers.
  • In processed organic foods, only 95% of the ingredients need to be organic.

What is allowed?

There are now a lot of organic seals and each one has different criteria. The EU organic seal sets the lowest organic standard – Demeter has the highest organic standard. What you shouldn’t forget despite all the seals – certification costs money and there are also farmers who produce organically without having a seal.

For a quick overview I found this overview with the most important organic seals of the University of Passau very helpful.

Just because you eat sweets with organic seal, you don’t have a healthy diet. Of course, it depends on the products you consume. Fresh fruit and vegetables or ready-made products?

A conventional apple has the same vitamin C content as an organic apple. But with the organic apple you don’t consume any residue from pesticides, some of which are suspected of causing cancer.

A diet without these substances is more likely to pay off over the years. At the same time, it is good for mother nature, whose biodiversity is not destroyed and our drinking water is also of better quality.

Is it all a question of cost?

Can families afford fruit and vegetables without residue from pesticides or meat without residue from antibiotics? It is actually worth comparing prices here, because organic food is not always more expensive than conventional food. There is definitely a big price difference between the cheapest conventional discounter goods and the 100% regional organic products from the health food store.

chicken

Since little attention is paid to environmental protection and animal welfare with the cheap products, you can buy 1kg of chicken for 2 €. The price hardly reflects the actual costs. My tip, just consume meat less often, but more consciously with a price that really reflects feed, animal welfare, rearing and slaughter. Because in organic quality, chicken legs cost at least five times as much.

If you buy branded products in the supermarket that often have an EU organic seal, you should try an appropriate organic product from the organic food store. Here the price differences are not that big – but the quality, depending on the seal. You know why? The expensive advertising of the branded products is included in the price 😉

The price differences are significantly smaller for fruit, vegetables and chocolate. So if you can’t afford to buy everything in organic quality, then at least for these products. In the case of potatoes and Co., you save yourself peeling and have more of it.

I only buy organic food myself, preferably from the farmer around the corner. And even if I dont have much money for a while, the last thing I save money is the quality of my food.

Not all foods are the same

Did you know that there are differences of food? Even if this is about the scientific definition, the article does not claim to provide you with useless knowledge. Rather, the distinction should help you reflect on your current diet and perhaps achieve your goals more easily and quickly.

The teaching on the differences of food goes back to the German bacteriologist and hygienist Prof. Werner Kollath, who lived from 1892 to 1970 and is considered a pioneer of wholefood nutrition.

According to Kollath, only foods that were as untreated as possible contained enough essential ingredients in order not to suffer from malnutrition that lead to chronic diseases. Kollath divided the food into two groups each with three “value groups”.

(essential) food that is either

  • unchanged
  • mechanically changed
  • enzymatically modified (fermented)

(processed) food that is either

  • heated
  • preserved
  • dissected

Essential Food

Fresh fruit, fresh vegetables, cereals, oil fruits, pulses, honey, raw eggs, raw milk, fermented juices, fermented vegetables (sauerkraut), spices, spring water

pastries

Processed Food

Bread, pastries, sugar, processed oils, jams, cooked fruits and vegetables, canned goods, finished products, sweets

Kollath rates plant-based food higher than animal food, and raw food higher than processed food.

Even if you do not study the teaching in depth, it quickly becomes clear what everyone certainly knows – stay away from ready-made products and prefer to eat fresh fruit and vegetables – and animal products in moderation.
